What is Mindfulness and what is expected during a session
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the practice of maintaining non‑judgmental awareness of the present moment—observing your thoughts, emotions, and bodily sensations without getting caught up in them. Rooted in ancient contemplative traditions and supported by modern neuroscience, mindfulness has been shown to reduce stress, improve focus, and enhance emotional resilience.
What to expect in a Mindfulness Session?
Mindfulness is a powerful practice rooted in presence, compassion, and awareness, and your journey begins with a thoughtful, personalised approach. Here's how our sessions are structured to guide you from stress and overwhelm to clarity and calm.
1. Intake Session: Foundations for Growth
Your first session is an intake/consultation session, which will typically be around 60-90 minutes, a gentle yet thorough exploration of your wellbeing. This is more than a tick-box exercise; it's a compassionate space for you to be heard.
We’ll begin with a structured conversation about:
-
Your current life context: work-life balance, emotional wellbeing, relationships, physical health, sleep patterns, and screen time.
-
Stress and anxiety indicators: How they show up in your body, thoughts, and behaviours.
-
Previous experience with mindfulness, meditation, or other therapeutic approaches.
-
What you’re seeking: Relief from stress or burnout? More emotional regulation? Greater focus? Connection with your body? Or simply a sense of ease?
Together, we’ll co-create a mindfulness intention—a soft goal that aligns with your needs. This intention will guide the structure and focus of your future sessions.
You'll also complete a Mindfulness Profile Assessment, helping to identify which of the nine foundational attitudes of mindfulness (such as non-judging, patience, beginner’s mind, or letting go) may benefit from nurturing in your life.
You’ll leave this session with:
-
A personalised session plan.
-
A short “try-at-home” grounding practice.
-
A clear sense of the journey ahead—whether that’s a one-off reset or a longer transformation.
2. Guided Practice
Each session includes a live guided mindfulness experience tailored to your current energy, challenges, or goals.
We may use:
-
Breath awareness to calm the nervous system.
-
Body scans to reconnect you with grounded physical awareness.
-
Sound meditation to attune your attention.
-
Mindful movement or walking for active, embodied mindfulness.
-
Self-compassion practices to address inner critics and emotional fatigue.
Instruction is offered gently, with space for silence and permission to engage at your own pace. You’ll be supported in becoming the observer of your experience, without needing to ‘fix’ anything.
3. Reflection & Integration
After the guided practice, we will hold space for reflection—what you noticed, what surprised you, and what felt challenging or helpful.
We may explore:
-
Emotional patterns or recurring thoughts that surfaced.
-
How to integrate mindfulness into specific parts of your day (e.g., the school run, work deadlines, before bedtime).
-
Your responses to stillness or silence.
Together, we translate the experience into insight—turning “that was calming” into “I see how I can meet my anxiety with breath.”
4. Personalised Take‑Home Resources
You’ll receive tailored resources designed to support your integration between sessions, including:
-
Audio recordings of breath practices, body scans, or compassion meditations.
-
Journaling prompts to deepen reflection.
-
Simple “micro-practices” to embed mindfulness into your day (e.g., a 3-breath pause before opening your inbox).
-
A visual habit tracker to encourage consistency without pressure.
These aren’t generic PDF's—they’re selected for you, based on where you are in your journey and how you learn best.
A Collaborative, Gentle Journey
Mindfulness sessions are not prescriptive or rushed. They are shaped around you—your nervous system, your story, your preferences.
Whether you experience immediate relief or a slower unfolding of awareness, you’ll be supported to:
-
Build emotional resilience.
-
Anchor your attention in the present.
-
Develop a kinder, more spacious relationship with yourself.
You don’t need to arrive with a blank mind or sit in perfect stillness. You only need to arrive as you are.
